Can you tell me why one of my Verizon accounts works in Windows 10 Mail and the other one does not. I am using the same setting for both.
Please check if you can access your account by going to mail.aol.com in a browser. If you can successfully sign in, we have some troubleshooting steps to try:
- check the Incoming mail server settings in your email application, and make sure they match the IMAP/POP settings in the section titled “Update server settings” from the following help article: https://help.aol.com/articles/how-do-i-set-up-other-email-applications-to-send-and-receive-my-verizon-net-mail
- the incoming and outgoing mail servers require SSL enabled for all ports, and also the username field in the account setup, needs to contain your full email address, including @verizon.net at the end.
- in case your server settings are correct, open the link below (and sign in if necessary), and make sure the option “Allow apps that use less secure sign-in” is turned ON.
After this turning ON this option, check if your mail application is able to connect. If the problem persists, verify if the “Two-step verification” option on the Account Security page (the URL above) is turned ON or OFF.
In case this feature is turned ON, you will have to create a unique application-specific password for each one of your email applications, by following the steps from the section titled “How do I set up 2-step verification?” from the following article: https://help.aol.com/articles/2-step-verification-stronger-than-your-password-alone

E-mail access through third-party clients (Thunderbird, Windows Live Mail, ...) using IMAP is bizarrely flaky. Yes, I can access my inbox, but after selecting two other folder the third folder hangs with "Login to server imap.aol.com with username ... failed". You have to exit and re-enter the application or just wait ~10 minutes in order to get access to another three folders. And NO, this is not a problem with the server settings or the account password, NOR can it be fixed by the "App password" workaround. It appears that your server blocks more than three login attempts over some period of time, even if those logins were successful. This behavior is incomparable with IMAP. Please sort this out, or give up the fiction of third-party access.
My AOL (Verizon) accounts get errors now when I try to add them to a Gmail account to check email for download. The existing Verizon accounts in Gmail work but adding new ones causes errors and they cannot be added. Google One support tried to help me for hours yesterday and concluded it must be something on AOLs end.
Apparently, when the secure app switch is set, your pop server no longer responds to pop clients. This has to be wrong. pop is no less secure than browser access.

I am adding to the feedback that I posted yesterday, Dec. 4: I got a pat answer from AOL that did not help me AT ALL, then AOL closed any further discussion. Below has more detail that may help AOL give a more helpful answer:
I have been unable to receive email on my iPhone MAIL APP first thing in the morning without first getting to my computer to sign into AOL on internet. I have given my iPhone permission to view emails without having to sign in each time with a password on my phone MAIL APP, so email is always available to me on my iPhone. ALL OF MY SETTINGS ARE CORRECT ON ALL DEVICES (2…MY PHONE AND MY COMPUTER). Until the past few weeks, I have been able to do this for past few years without a problem. Not being able to get my mail on my iPhone MAIL APP without signing into my AOL account through the internet is very frustrating and inconvenient, especially if I need to receive important emails before I am able to get to my computer. Thanks so much for looking into this ongoing problem.
This is the answer that AOL admin gave me, then they closed the discussion:
“In case there are multiple failed attempts, to log into the IMAP/POP server in a short amount of time, the login will be temporarily blocked for security reasons. In order to unblock it, go to mail.aol.com from your preferred browser and sign in, then wait 30 seconds and check if your email applications are able to connect. We recommend checking all of your mail applications (PC and mobile devices) and making sure they have the correct password to login into your email account.”
AOL: do you have a solution to this problem, or have you changed the process and now require internet sign in to our mail accounts before our other devices will receive mail without having to sign in, even tho we have given our devices permission to receive email without a password?
Whenever I try to download email, I receive a message Mail server pop.verizon.net responded: [SYS/TEMP] Server error - .
Really getting annoyed at how sporadic this service is!
Verizon AOL shuts down once a month and won't authenticate server. I have to go online, manually log in to Aol.com and then it finally re-authenticates server so I can receive/send email on my Pixel via AquaMail. This is getting ridiculous and PLEASE DO NOT SEND ME LINK ON HOW TO CONFIGURE THE SERVER. Everything is correct and I've been configuring 3rd party email since before you were born.
Used trained tech support people that you don't have to repeatedly have to call every other day to fix the same stinking problem that is occurring on your end. The techs in the Philippines don't have contact with or guts to contact someone to let then know your server is trashing third part email programs and kicking them off line every other day. This requires another call to tech and another 30 minutes of my time. Four times in 10 days to fix the same problem. This was never an issue with Verizon.

Using WLM as Local Client. Authentication to pop.aol.com fails. I FIX by trying re-entering Server Password in WLM Server Settings AND/OR Replacing Server Password at Prompts. OK for a day or so, then it fails AGAIN !
PLEASE Help !
AOL has made changes in their operating that isn't backward compatible using email. My email doesn’t work the support said that I could use a different way to access my email but I am finding too many steps to do that. I am using Windows Vista Windows Mail. I am not happy with AOL email on what the support is telling me. I would like some help.
I am a former Verizon email customer who was forced to switch to AOL. I have problems almost daily lately for Thunderbird on my PC to retrieve my email from AOL; or send out. Sometimes it seems to help if I log into AOL and leave it active, then go to my PC email and it has no trouble retrieving. Sometimes everything works with no problems, as it used do all the time. Any clues what is going on or how to get around this issue?

Real PITA when the imap server can't process login's from email clients.
OBTW - I also can't send a note to firstname.lastname@example.org if I can't login.

Periodically, about once every two weeks, it appears that all active 'read' but 'undeleted' mail on the server gets resent as 'unread.' It generates hundreds of duplicate emails that flood the inbox. Please fix this problem.

I can see mail in Inbox on AOL site, but it isn't dropping to my inbox on my computer, however
Bulk Mail does get through?
When the program asks me to confirm my password, it keep asking. Today it came back every 6 seconds, with the password in the little box. It did this about 100 times today. This happens every 2 or 3 months, I guess. Ask for my password, put it in, it comes back asking again. Please make it stop!

several clients have sent me emails and they do not appear in my inbox at all. I have missed some very important correspondence because of this. I may have to switch to gmail.
how about fixing the pop server. seems like it is down way too often for days at a time.
