My outlook stopped getting emails from AOL 2 days ago. I get an outlook error message of 0x80042110. I emptied my AOL inbox so that there are 0 emails. I still show -1 new messages. I think that is the problem, but have no way to correct it.

Thanks to Craig Colburn for your suggestions. I had exactly the same problems you had and your procedure worked. The additional password is inconvenient at best, but it recovered my email. Annoyed with AOL for making that change and not giving any notification.

Like other users, I suddenly cannot get mail from two of four legacy verizon.net accounts. All are routed to Outlook with the same settings so why two work and two don't is a mystery. I have looked at the settings and they are consistent. I also tried deleting and adding back one of the accounts that I use infrequently but I was unsuccessful. The other account I use often and this is creating a big problem. Why isn't AOL addressing it?
JOHN MCALEER commented
I have a similar problem to a number of others. The ONLY reason I have AOL is tha I have a “legacy” Verizon email that I have had for nearly twenty years and it abruptly stopped working several days ago. I can access my email through the aol website which is NOT what I want to do. My email was working fine through my apple mail app until then. There are no support options for me from either Verizon or aol without ponying up more money. As a hint to aol, this is exactly how class action lawsuits start.

AOL mail is notorious for not delivering mail to you.
I would recommend to anyone who needs to use email for serious things, don't use AOL mail for that.
Aol Mail is for your "Trap Email" stuff.
Use your AOLmail emaill address to sign up for free **** online
Use it for signing up for web Forums where they require email confirmation.
If you do what I am suggesting, you'll notice pretty fast what I am talking about because only about 80% of web registrations will appear in this email. The rest will never arrive and you will be unable to "Verify" whatever account you were trying to register for.
This can make it so you will lose the Screen Name that you tried to register with.
This is very serious.
Don't trust this email if you really need it to work like Email.

Like the comments below, I am unable to get my email on two of my verizon accounts using Outlook and my phone email. This started on July 26. I tried to delete and add back the accounts, but, I am unable to add the accounts. I am able to access both accounts via aol.com so it it is not a password issue. The issue seems to be with the aol server.

On my other devices I am getting the following update password or allow device to sync. Why I'm getting these messages and How do I correct it.

I have several verizon.net email accounts. About mid July, 2 of them no longer let me access mail via outlook. I followed all the instructions under help. Tried to reset them up according to the help. Changed passwords. Nothing helps. Please address this issue. It looks like lots out there are having the same issue.

I have the same problem. not receiving my emails, since 7/23/21. Is there any solution to this, can it be fix. I have had verizon for 20 years or more. AOL needs to fix this, and let me know what to do.

have been receiving emails through my Outlook App and through my Mail Mac App, and then in April 2021 everything stopped. I know that the reason is that AOL change setting on their mail servers but will not admit any changes nor help with the configuration requirements.
Paid for support which was useless. The only reason why I have my email with AOL because I have a Verizon domain.

When I tried to update to your new system; my email was hacked. Why, am I not receiving any emails to ladypatbrown? Emails were going to "Trash" box.

I have the same problem. I have tried downloading my email using both pop.aol.com and imap.aol.com methods. I have attempted both methods using Thunderbird in Linux, and Outlook 365 on Windows 10. I have deleted the account in both methods (and all files associated with the platforms), and introduced it new to no avail. The only two methods by which I can read my email is by webmail and/or an Android phone. I have even changed my authentication to confirm it was not due to a password database issue.
I find it odd that this has happened since 12JUL21. Did you modify you infrastructure, security, or account management? Perhaps a missing entry in LDAP on your servers?
To add, I have three @verizon.net accounts hosted now by AOL mail. Two work as designed. The third of which I am complaining does not. Hence, configuration as set by the two that do work fails. Why only the one account?

Email clients no longer work regardless of device or computer. It's not possible to get email using an email client. It isn't broken on your computer. AOL no longer allows using your AOL password to access your email via an email client through IMAP or POP. This seems to be selectively implemented and justified as a security measure which in reality it isn't. My last mail sync was on July 8th. I noticed on July 9th that I couldn't get my AOL email from ONE of my AOL email accounts. My other AOL email account still works fine.
My email settings already match this AOL help article. https://help.aol.com/articles/how-do-i-use-other-email-applications-to-send-and-receive-my-aol-mail
and this one:
The solution support provided isn't very satisfactory for those of us that like to type in our passwords at each login so we never forget them. Support also says they are supposed to send out an email before they do this to your account. I didn't get one.
AOL's solution is to setup what they call "app passwords" for each email client we use on each device. So if you access email using an email client on two different computers you create two different app passwords. One for each computers email client and another one for each cell phone app used to view your mail.. (A possible other solution is to delete the email account from your email client and set it up again from scratch. I haven't done that yet because I'll lose all of my saved email If I do.) https://help.aol.com/articles/Create-and-manage-app-password
App password isn't a long term solution for me. The passwords it creates are poor. All lower case letters. No uppercase or special characters. I don't ever let any software or app remember passwords because that is a honey pot security breach waiting to happen. I'll have to abandon this email account
Yahoo did the same thing some years back. Yahoo offers OAUTH as an alternative. AOL doesn't.

Had the same problem - I am using aol mail through verizon.net. I found a lot of talk on the internet about generating an app password from AOL. Finally found a simple explanation - go to your mail inbox at aol.com; then options (upper right) -> account info; select account security in the left menu column; select manage app password. It will ask you what app you want to connect with - I am using outlook - then it generated a password. Told me to enter it as my password in the outlook account settings - I did - and now it all works. Not sure why the problem just started - others have seen it since last year. It is supposed to be a one time thing.

Mine quit coming for 1 of my 3 e-mail accounts on July 11. The other 2 account were offline then come across the next day with duplicates of everything. It appears AOL had some type of major e-mail issue and has now locked me out of 1 account. The e-mail is coming in as I can see it via Webmail, it just won't allow me to sign on to the account using MS Live Mail. Any ideas?
