I have received several of these emails threatening to close my "old version" of email. The address its coming from is a verizon.net NOT VERIZON.COM. I believe its a scam. Please stop these from coming through. You're in control here not us. Make it stop.

Another variation I've received 3 times now is below. Based on the use of Bcc a lot of other people are being targeted as well. Reporting these as spam hasn't worked. Not everybody will recognize this as a social engineering scam and I believe you have an obligation to take reasonable action to protect your customers. There is a pattern to these which would make them easy to flag and block. Further since the sender seems to be your customer I expect you have additional tools for ending this:

I received 2 of these messages on Oct 17th from two different addresses; so they are still coming.

AOL seems very good at passing along obvious phishing scams. I'd think even they might be more competent than that, but apparently that's a foolish expectation. Maybe they funnel them to spam folders at least. A guy I know actually responded to this, then switched to gmail, though it was probably too late to do him any good.

I am paying each month for the AOL Service, & just received in my "spam" folder a message saying you were discontinuing my account for failure to change over to another later AOL addition. 1st of all, I found it strange the message came under "spam," & not my regular address with you.
Could someone from AOL please update me if this is for real, & if so, what to do? If not from you,
please help me that someone has not gained access to my system. Thank you, firstname.lastname@example.org

Our record shows that your Mailbox is outdated due to our system upgrade to Oath Mail which has caused some incoming mail to be placed on hold.
As a precautionary measure, we will restrict access to your Mailbox from 28th September 2021 until you upgrade your Mailbox. To prevent abuse, sending out emails from 30th September 2021 will not be possible as long as access to the Mailbox is limited.
Kindly update your Mailbox in order to receive new mails. SCAM OATH MAIL
