Using an app password for Outlook fixed the pop server timeout issue. Thanks to all who mentioned the app password. App password can be generated in aol account info, account security, app password. The password has to be typed in exactly, with spaces, copy paste did not work. Once switched to app password, there is no going back to the personal password in Outlook. Aol mail web interface will still need the personal password. The app password is for the mail app only.

Done what I could on my end, updated Thunderbird, changed my password in case it no longer met the complexity requirements. I really need this cleared up, my only other option is to change all the important senders to another Email address, and that is a lot of time and work.

I am beside myself to discover that I Verizon/Aol hasn't forwarded messages to my computer or laptop since December 16!!!!! Many messages are on the server, but I can't figure out anyway to get them sent to my Apple Mail inboxes. Apple Mail keep saying "Unable to verify user name or password." I am both relieved and upset to see how widespread this problem is. It's going on 3 weeks!! Does anybody know what's up or when it will be fixed???

A work-around for Thunderbird:
Create a new Thunderbird account using their instructions for switching from POP to IMAP: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/switch-pop-imap-accountIncoming server: imap.aol.com SSL port 993 (NOTE: this isn't the default)
SMTP Server: smtp.aol.com SSL port 465Authentication Method - OAuth2 (which will open AOL web page dialog)
I hope this helps someone

I can ping smtp.verizon.net, but not pop.verizon.net. Been happening since Dec 22 or so. What gives? Would like not to use the web interface, and have 10+ years of email stored & organized in Thunderbird folders.

My problem with Outlook seemed to begin on Dec. 23. Indicating error 0X800 CCCOE. I have unsuccessfully attempted to fix it per instructions on the internet but it is still not working.

I called the AOL 800-358-4860 number to try to get email going thru Thunderbird again. "Steven" took me thru the "password.aol.com" steps to generate a 1-time password to get connected. It did work, and downloaded 170 emails in my AOL account. I thought it was all working. My mistake! When I tried to send an email, it did not go anywhere. I had to get another 1-time password to be able to send that msg. Now I have sent 2 test msgs to myself. Both have gone out, but neither has come back to Thunderbird. They are sitting in the AOL browser page. Do I have to go get a new 1-time password every time I start Thunderbird? Why does AOL not like 3rd party mail tools? I know they don't, I could pick that up from "Steven's" attitude.

Years ago, Verizon dumped all their verizon.net email customers onto AOL, and so we have had to jump through hoops to even download our emails. Now, verizon.net servers (smtp.verizon.net) have timed out for about a week now, and therefore I cannot download my email from AOL, nor can I sent emails from my email application (seamonkey). I have reset all the parameters as AOL has instructed, but the verizon server still times out. I think this smtp.verizon.net timeout is intentional, so that I will be forced to go straight to the internet AOL link to read my emails, and since the AOL email application sucks, I hate having to use it just to read my verizon.net emails.
Therefore, as soon as I can find a workable alternative to the sorry AOL email app, I will be dropping AOL LIKE A HOT POTATO!. -

Add me to the list of people who cannot access my verizion.net email through Outlook. It was working perfectly after the last time it did this up until December 15, 2021. What are my our next steps?

FIX THE BLOODY POP.VERIZON.NET and SMTP.VERIZON.NET SERVER SOFTWARE. Paying-users are held ******* wondering why they suddenly can't receive/send email, whether anybody is doing anything about it, and why there are no useful HELP options provided by AOL.. AOL's "support" of Verizon.net users is pitiful.

Somebody should slap AOL up side the head with a samurai sword. This disconnect is really unsettling. I don't even want to look at email now.

Still cant access through outlook. Been using it for years and a few days ago it failed. The error is "-ERR [SYS/TEMP] Server error - Please try again later. I tried everything including changing email server settings from verizon to aol, SMTP to IMAP, etc. The only thing that works is web login.

The only way to log in to my Verizon email via Thunderbird is to get a one-time password from AOL in the password generator section. I must do this every time I close Thunderbird! This only affecting one of my four accounts. This is second time this has happened in the past few months!! Using AOL's mail program leaves a lot to be desired. I was forced into using this mail program when Verizon decided not to support anymore; at the the time Verizon still owned AOL email, but I believe that is no ;onger true.

I have the same problem with 2 of my 3 Verizon email addresses in Thunderbird. I deleted and re-created all of the accounts in Thunderbird after receiving the update notice from AOL. They all worked for awhile. A few days ago, I encountered an login/authentication problem with one account, which I could not resolve. Last night, a second account did the same. If the third one follows suit, I won't be able to get Email pertaining to my banking, utilities, and medical. This is more than just inconvenient. AOL needs to get this fixed ASAP. The fix could be as simple as clicking a check box in account settings, but I don't have access to it.

SAme problem with one verizon email address, yet the other one works OK. I've even removed the non working one, then recreated as AOL mail, and moved folders into it, but still no POP nor SMTP access works with it, and changed password several times. Nothing works. I need to see my incoming bills and payments, and not just on mail.aol.com, but in my Thunderbird is where I want them. I've had no problem with my yahoo email accounts! I should have opted for them with verizon instead of AOL!
