I’ll disagree with your sense of Citizens United, Booo…
While the organizations mentioned have the ability to incorporate, they're virtually all non-profits, including unions, and are “controlled” by specific regulations regarding taxes, liabilities, political contributions, etc!
Whereas, virtually all corporate businesses are for-profit, and therefore “controlled” by a very different set of regulations.
Unions are some of the most regulated, overseen, and audited organizations in the country, and are subject to strict limitations on political spending. A union’s only source of funds is the dues monies from their members. Those members however, have the ability to opt out of paying the portion of dues used for funding political activities... which can only be spent on indirect political activities… not for direct contributions to a specific candidate.
By contrast, corporations are not limited by the same restrictions, and their political influence is not funded by individuals, but rather… the vast resource of their corporate profits! With Citizens United, they now have the ability to make unlimited, anonymous contributions to any candidate’s campaign they choose!
So, while corporations “are entitled … to have a voice in governance,” they have the ability to exercise those “freedoms” far more freely than unions and other organizations… and therefore, have an unfair advantage in the political arena!
Which means to me that Citizens United was decided IN-correctly!
