Disappearing Email
For 2 weeks now, email has been "self-migrating" from my inbox and old mail box to the trash heap. 5 rounds of working with tech support and 3 hours of what has so far been wasted time and here's the latest, if you care to read it:
Jack M
Hi there! My name is Jack, your Technical Support Specialist and I’ll be assisting you today!
8:55:32 AM
Hello Monty, nice to meet you! :)
8:55:49 AM
How are you today?
8:55:52 AM
Me
good moring.
8:55:54 AM
irritated by the continuing issue with email
8:56:08 AM
Jack M
Could you please check Trash/ Recently deleted folder to see if the e-mails are there?
8:56:54 AM
Me
it is there. I did not move it.
8:57:07 AM
same issues as previously stated in case 10557082
8:57:19 AM
and the latest arrival just disappeared from my inbox, while we've been chatting
8:57:42 AM
Jack M
Have you managed to check if you have the e-mails in Trash/ Recently deleted folder?
8:57:52 AM
Me
If you will please refer to the notes already in the file, it could save us a lot of time
8:58:23 AM
Jack M
Could you please tell me if you are using the Unified Inbox style or New/ Old style?
8:59:47 AM
Me
currently the New/Old, but it has been swapped back and forth several times by you guys, issue occurs in either, but I seem to perminately lose more in the old style
9:00:34 AM
Jack M
Could you please switch to unified style in this case following the steps provided in the next article: https://help.aol.com/articles/how-do-i-switch-to-the-unified-inbox-view?
9:01:00 AM
Me
why
9:01:18 AM
Jack M
New/ old style is outdated and some issues like it happens while using New/ old, so you need to use the Inbox style from now on.
9:01:52 AM
Me
at the fear of being redundant, THAT DOESN"T WORK!
9:02:31 AM
AOL Tech support has made the swap 2 separate times now and each time, AOL tech support has switched it back. I have not made the change
9:03:09 AM
Jack M
Could you please switch to the unified Inbox style now?
9:03:33 AM
Me
Done, AGAIN
9:04:20 AM
Jack M
Could you please also tell me if you are using Standard or Basic version of Web Mail now?
9:04:43 AM
Me
I am using mail.aol.com
9:05:08 AM
standard
9:05:13 AM
I am also using the AOL app on my cell phone
9:05:27 AM
Jack M
Could you please click on Options and after it click on Basic Version of AOL Mail?
9:05:41 AM
Me
done
9:07:23 AM
Jack M
Great! Could you please also check Trash folder now and move the e-mails that you need from there back to Inbox folder and check if the issue is fixed?
9:07:54 AM
Me
just as they were before
9:08:08 AM
Jack M
Could you please move them to Inbox folder now and check if the issue is fixed?
9:08:39 AM
Me
Some mail is now moved, if this holds consistently with previous attempts, it will disappear sometime in the next 24 hours or so (usually in the next hour or 2)
9:09:50 AM
Jack M
You need to keep using the unified Inbox folder and Basic Verizon of AOL Mail in order to do not encounter this issue again.
9:10:01 AM
I do apologize for inconveniences.
9:10:08 AM
Me
so, is this a known issue?
9:10:17 AM
Jack M
It is not a known issue, but unfortunately like I already told you the New/ Old version is out of date and this is why it happened.
9:11:22 AM
Is there anything else I can assist you with at this time?
9:11:25 AM
Me
so, you're having me setup my mail in a less convenient fashion to address an issue that is not known for what reason? Oddly, the last 5 agents I have dealt with knew nothing about it.
9:12:29 AM
Jack M
I do apologize for inconveniences, but this is the only way to fix it, to use the Inbox style and Basic Version of AOL Mail, because the New/ old version is out of date and we are not able to do anything regarding this New/ old version from our end, you can also submit a feedback regarding this inconvenience to https://aol.uservoice.com/. There you need to click on AOL Mail and submit your feedback.
9:14:18 AM
Me
stil curious how you "know" this will fix the issue, when it is not a "known" issue
9:15:45 AM
Jack M
I could do it because you provided me the case number, there I could see more information about your issue there and I could determine what we need to do in order to fix it.
9:18:20 AM
Is there anything else I can assist you with at this time?
9:18:24 AM
Not to rush you, but are you still with me?
9:20:01 AM
9:20:19 AM
Jack M
Is there anything else I can gladly help you with today?

The best feature about AOL is its mail. Looks like that's going down the tubes. Maybe it's time to stop wasting $14.95/month

If you access AOL Mail from an app on your mobile device or your computer, your settings or actions could have caused emails to be deleted from your account.
Desktop apps, like Outlook, Thunderbird, and Mac Mail, or any mobile mail apps can access AOL Mail using POP.
One POP setting, will delete email from your account when it’s downloaded.
Please check if your account is set up as POP in any third party mail client. If that is the case, to disable the “delete emails from server” option, please contact your app manufacturer.
