can't get mail on my computer it says needs permission to sync

Hi there. As we all know, technology is continuing to change and improve. While the connection you have been using may still work and was once the best, a better, more secure option is available. Basic auth is an older authentication method. A more secure authentication method called OAuth2 is now available. To ensure your account remains secure, we are requiring all applications to support OAuth2.
We recommend using the AOL Mail website and AOL email app so we can ensure you’re always using the most secure sign-in technology when accessing your email.
If you prefer to continue accessing your AOL email on your current third-party email application, including the default email application on your mobile phone, please see details below on how to ensure it’s syncing with the latest secure sign-in method: https://help.aol.com/articles/allow-apps-that-use-less-secure-sign-in
Thank you!

OK, I went to AOL Account Security page and selected "Manage App Passwords" generated a unique password for my Mac Mail, and for my iPhone and my wife's, and for my iPad - they all worked for POP but not yet for SMTP - so at this time, I can receive BUT NOT SEND email. Not sure why or how. I turned connection logging on but the logs aren't very informative....

I have not been able to connect via POP/SMTP using Apple Mail (IOS or MacOS) since last Monday 7/12/21 around 7PM. This is my landkwat@verizon.net account that I've had for over 20 years, and my Verizon/AOL setup has worked fine ever since Verizon dumped their own email system. The AOL app (iOS) and web client work fine, but ALL my Mac/iPhone email is organized in Apple Mail so I need it to work. I have checked and re-checked all my settings (SSL on, correct ports, uses password for both receive/send, etc.), even deleted my AOL account in Apple Mail and recreated it, still doesn't work. I checked the connection logs - my password IS CORRECT as at one point authentication succeeds but then the server quits, and the same pw works fine in the web client ab iOS app. PLEASE FIX THIS on your end or tell me how to.

Yup. Outlook IMAP stopped working, responding with an authentication error. The same login and password works via the web and from my phone. Anyone getting an answer from AOL?

You suck. You've always sucked since you were a dial up. I hate that Verizon sold their mail to your company. Our accounts on our mail apps randomly stop syncing. I'm NOT using your ****** apps.

Thank you, Kelvin! What you suggested worked. Why didn't AOL plainly explain how to solve this issue? However, NOW AOL CAN TRACK INDIVIDUAL DEVICES (AND YOU). Perhaps that was the intent all along... I have privacy concerns.

Can't send OR receive Verizon email for 18 hours in either my PC app (Postbox) or my phone app (K-9) mail. This usually goes away in a few hours, but now I am totally shut out. FIX IT PLEASE!

Your pop3 service for my account isn't working. Obviously some email addresses are fine, but some are down. Do you have an ETA when all services will be restored?

As of yesterday night, no AOL mail has been received on my laptop (Mac) or iPhone. Also, outgoing mail sits in outbox. The server doesn't validate the password or times out. I can log into mail.aol.com with same user and password to see the mail and nothing has changed on my laptop or phone. This has happened in the past, maybe for a day or two and then all of a sudden, it starts working again, and I have done nothing on my end to fix it.

In the last 24 hours, one of my three verizon.net email addresses (the one I'm logged in with) has stopped working in the Outlook and Gmail apps using imap.aol.com as the incoming server. Both apps say they can't validate my email address and password. I've tried changing my password and even deleting the account from Gmail and now can't add it back. My other two verizon.net email accounts work fine. What's going on with this one account.

I'm suddenly no longer able to access my Verizon.net email on any non-AOL email clients on WIndows and Android. These were working for years and were working as recently as July 11, 2021 (2 days ago).
Did something suddenly change on or about July 12, 2021 in how non-AOL apps must be configured to access Verizon/AOL email?
