client connect
A few days ago my Thunderbird email client stopped working.
I am a Verizon user and my email is robert.fetter@verizon.net.
When I start it, it connects to pop.verizon.net and sends my user name, In a while it times out and I get "Sending of password for user robert.fetter did not succeed. Mail server pop.verizon.net responded: [SYS/TEMP] Server error - Please try again later."
I have a subaccount of dkdfetter set up for my wife and things are working for her.
I know my password is set right as I can log in to the Verizon web sites.
To get to my email I must go to https://www.aol.com/ and log in and there access my email.
Do I have to use the password for Verizon or AOL? I have them set to the same values when things moved over and it all worked until a few days ago.
Please respond to my email account.

widely used email clients like outlook, mac email, thunderbird, eudora, etc. should be recognized without user intervention.

I was able to solve this (we'll see how long it lasts) by using the 'Manage App Passwords' link under the options->Account Info->Account Security on the aol webmail page. I generated a password for an 'Other App' which I named Thunderbird. I used this password for both the pop.verizon.net and the smtp.verizon.net servers and instructed Thunderbird save it for both. The spaces shown in the generated password were not included in the actual password. Good luck.
