I know it would be easier if AOL could (or would) take care of this; but there is a simple way to tell if the email is legit. If you hover your mouse over the "From" address (in this case AOL Team) the actual email address will pop up (in this case jasmith69@verizon.net). As you can see, this is from someone on Verison.net. It should say @aol.com. This is something everyone should do; with every email they get. The sender can put anything they want in the "From" line, but if you put your pointer over it, it will show you the true sender.

Same thing. They forwarded all my emails to hattner1@gmail.com and sent all of my emails to go to SPAM & Trash. This is not an email of mine. I finally had to figure out how to fix it myself. I stayed on hold for the help desk forever and was told they couldn't help me. Said the email was in my husband's name and he has never even used it. Of course he was out of the country too.

I received the same email yesterday about closing all old versions of Mailbox and have not clicked on the blue tab either. I've noticed some grammatical errors in the email. It said my account will be closed and so far not.

This is a Phishing email. It sent 90+ emails which came back into my Trash folder. All incoming email comes to the Trash folder now. Composed messages make an error when sent.

As noted elsewhere in these comments, do not click on the link in that email and more importantly do not put your aol login info into the real looking AOL sign in page that the email link takes you to (likely something that would end with Weebly dot com). Pretty sure putting your info in that page sends your AOL creds to hackers and then they take over your account and use your account to send the same email to everyone in your address book. If you entered your info on that page my advice would be to change your password immediately. You can also check your AOL account settings for the "Recent Activity" to see if unexpected locations have signed in to your account. Here is some hopefully helpful additional info if you were hacked. While signed in to AOL mail through a web browser, there should be an "options" drop down in the top right corner. Click on the drop down and select mail settings. Then in the menu on the left select filter settings. Make sure a filter has not been set up to direct your mail to a different folder than the inbox. ALSO in the same menu that has the filter settings, click on the "recent activity" menu and follow the link to make sure you do not see unexpected locations signed in to your account. If you do see someone from another country or location signed in, change your password, you have likely been hacked. Also from the regular email page, you may be able to click on the contacts menu on the left, and then in the top center of the page use the more menu to restore contacts if they have been deleted. It would be great if there was actually an official AOL/Yahoo/Verizon? email that would be sent out to alert people to this hacking scheme and warn them so more people do not fall victim.

I have received the following email message from 2 different senders both with a .aol account. I believe them to be spam but can not find a way of contacting AOL directly to find out. Judging from the amount of messages from other users in this thread, I am not alone. Please can you give some official response to these intrusive phishing attempts using the AOL name? Here's the example I received.

AOL +++ I am getting this too. Your BLUE AOL logo is not on the INBOX like I understand need to be there to prove that AOL actually sent it. Also View Message source said mreid121@aol.com. I am not going to go any further with it unless the BLUE AOL LOGO is there. Just got email from you and it had the blue logo / you where asking me if I just posted here. I recently went to another similar type of Email & someone contacted everyone in my contact list saying that I need help please send money / that is when I found out about the BLUE LOGO. THANK YOU
