It appears to me that there has been a deafening silence from AOL regarding the problem of attachments being automatically saved rather than being given the option to open or save.
As has been said by others, when the item is saved to the computer we are not given the choice as to where the attachment is saved and it becomes extremely time consuming attempting to find said attachment.

I have trouble previewing attachments even given the option. Every image or document needs to be downloaded first.

When will you allow email attachments to be opened without having to save them to a folder. It makes no sense!
Allow email attachments to be opened without saving to a folder. This limitation has been going on for some time and we need to be able to just open the attachment instead of saving it and having to go back and delete it.
