Emails deleted from your Inbox or mail folders will be moved to the Trash (or Recently Deleted) folder, where it will stay for up to 30 days before being automatically permanently deleted.

The app should sync automatically, if that is not the case you can try logging out entirely from the app, restart your device and then log back in.

Here’s how to manage your notification sound:

    1. Open the AOL App.
    2. Tap on the Settings button (Gear icon on the bottom right).
    3. Tap on Notifications.
    4. Tap on ‘System Notification Settings’ or Tap on the Importance level (e.g. High, Medium, Low) depending on the device you are using.
    5. Under the ‘Email Received’ section, tap on your Email Address.
    6. Tap ‘Sound’ and after you chose one, tap the check mark to save it

  4. I select more than one email & select move to old mail they do not move no matter how many times I try and on different days. Annoying!

These emails then get stuck in new mail or stuck in old mail if I am trying to move back to new. Some emails work fine but others don't maybe it the group selecting ticking on main mail folders that causes it.

We are unable to replicate this issue. However, I have a couple of troubleshooting steps for you that should resolve this issue:

    1. Clear the app’s cache
    2. If you’re signed in, tap the Settings icon, tap Manage Accounts, then tap Edit, tap Remove
    3. Restart your mobile device
    4. Uninstall and reinstall the app with the latest version
    5. Lastly, switch the internet connection from WiFi to mobile data

After you’ve performed these steps, should you still encounter this issue, please reach out to our support team at aolmailquestions@aol.com.

  6. Allow zooming on emails

I get text only emails sometimes as shipping notifications, and your app displays then so small as to be unreadable. There's no way to zoom in to read tiny text. You need a way to zoom in on emails.

Please make sure you have Chrome installed and enabled. Chrome must be the default browser for the AOL app to work correctly.

  10. Bring back the ability to filter NEW MAIL folder for addresses I want to let in. Now it's like I have TWO SPAM FOLDERS. What's ww you people

I used to be able to filter wanted addresses into new mail folder. The rest would go to spam. Your update removed that. Just leave well enough alone please. It makes me scared to do anymore updates of the app.

If unwanted junk mail is getting through your filters, the best way to stop it is to mark it as spam, under the ‘More’ menu.

Here’s how to easily mark emails as spam: http://o.aolcdn.com/hss/storage/fss/e398952e897ea5a54d5af61e47ccc5d1/mark+as+spam.png (37 kB)

If you see emails wrongfully directed to your Spam folder, select the email and click “Not spam” to redirect it to your inbox.

For advanced settings, go to mail.aol.com on a desktop computer and create filters under Mail Settings. You can filter incoming mail to go to the folders where you want them — or, make unwanted mail from specific senders go straight into Trash or Spam. Note: You can create up to 50 filters.

  11. allow direct access to email when clicking on AOL icon. without the Newsfeed coming up first then having to click on email button

AOL icon on my Samsung phone goes straight to the News. I want to change it so it goes to my email first.

To have the App open to Mail the next time you access it, make sure to close the app using the Overview button. Depending on the type of device you are using, this should be next to the Home button (to the left or to the right). Once you tap that button, it will open a list of thumbnail images of apps that you’ve worked with recently. To open an app, touch it. To remove a thumbnail from the list, swipe it left or right.

We are unable to replicate your issue. Make sure you have the screen rotation settings set up accordingly and if the issues persist, a uninstall and reinstall of the app should fix that.

  14. Allow zooming on text emails

I get text only emails sometimes as shipping notifications, and your app displays then so small as to be unreadable. There's no way to zoom in to read tiny text. You need a way to zoom in on text only emails. Zooming works fine on HTML emails, but it didn't work on the automated text only emails I sometimes get as shipping notifications. They break your viewer.

If the email contains basic text, you will need to pinch your fingers on the text inside of the email, in order to zoom. You might not be able to pinch to zoom on an empty white space in the email body.

The AOL App displays all the emails in your mailbox. In case you access your account from an email client (e.g. Outlook, Mac Mail, Thunderbird etc.) it is possible that some emails were downloaded from the server and stored locally in that email application.

Hi there, I want to see if I can help you resolve the issue, but I need a bit more details. Please send me an email at phonemail.assist@aol.com along with what brand and model of device you are using, as well as the build of Android you have on your device. (To check the build go to Settings – About – Software information).

We are sorry to hear you’re missing emails. This issue might be a result of using the account configured as POP, in one of your mail clients or mobile devices.

POP downloads email from a server to a single computer/device, then deletes it from the server. Because your messages get downloaded to a single computer or device and then deleted from the server, it can appear that mail is missing or disappearing from your Inbox if you try to check your mail from a different computer. Please check your account setup on all of your devices and email clients (e.g. Outlook, Mac Mail, Windows Live Mail), and for the ones that are using the account as POP, please make sure to have the option to leave a copy of the message on the server checked, or setup the account to use IMAP instead of POP.

    For help…

It is possible that you have a filter set to move incoming emails to the Trash folder, as a result of the compromised account. Please follow the steps below to disable this type of filter:

    1. Log into mail.aol.com from your desktop computer (the options below are not available on mobile devices).
    2. Click on ‘Options’ on the top right.
    3. Select ‘Mail Settings’ from the drop-down menu.
    4. Click on ‘Filter Settings’ on the left hand side.
    5. Hover your cursor over the Filter name, then click on the X next to the Edit button.

If this is not the case, please check the incoming mail and junk mail filters, in the mail applications that you are using (e.g. Outlook, Mac Mail, Windows Mail, Thunderbird or mobile email application).
