Recently, every time we sign into AOL Mail, at the top line of our inbox is invariably the same malvertising ad that claims something like “your cloud storage is almost full.” It looked legitimate, and once, before seeing the “Ad” annotation, I clicked on it, taking me to a page that I believe was infested with malware, and that also asked for login or personal information. (The domain name may have been, in part, something like ‘rootkitrodeo’.) I had to wipe my device and start fresh before I felt safe again. I can only imagine how many less-computer-literate users may have been fooled by this particular ad.
