Account security page does NOT have a "click here" to change password. I really need to change my password. This ought to be simple.

Apologies for the typos in the war and peace comment above. I was more than a little perturbed when I wrote it and didn't do a good enough job of proof-reading it.

Your password reset procedure is need of a dire need of a complete overhaul.
I got converted from Verizon email to AOL mail in 2017. I have one main account and three sub accounts, all set up on Verizon and all four use Thunderbird on a Mac. Somewhere around Nov. 9, 2018 Thunderbird encountered logon troubles to the AOL POP server and requested passwords to be re-input. This isn't the first time this has happened. Usually all it takes it to re-input the password until it get authenticated, which sucks in and of itself.
However, this time it continued happening until the main account got repeated log on rejects. I assumed the password somehow got locked. From a Verizon help page, I found where to attempt to logon to AOL mail and sure enough the password was rejected there too. When trying to reset the password by clicking forgot pass, i was asked if i would like a text sent to an old phone number that somehow got into the AOL system, must have happened at conversion time. There was no where to go to change that phone number for the main account. I had success logging on with a sub account ID/password from the AOL mail logon screen but couldn't change the main account's phone number from the sub account.
Calling customer service at about 6:49 PM Eastern Time on Nov. 15, 2018 and pressing 1 for password reset resulted in one of the most awful experiences I've ever had in customer service. I explained i needed a reset and that i was unable to change the phone number to receive a code via text. The rep could see the account and knew the password was locked but REFUSED to reset it on my behalf or send a code to my NEW phone. I kept getting asked for the names of subfolders on the account and I don't have any subfolders. I was repeatedly asked to name a subfolder so i tried guessing at common names i used for subfolders on mail at work. When using "Saved" as I name, i heard a snicker and was told that I couldn't use "common subfolder names" ... no kidding, it happened. There were no other subfolders than the common ones.
To make matters worse, the rep kept telling me that because I could not be verified then he was unable to help me. WHAT??????
I've been in Information Technology for 32 years and have never once been told or ever told an external or internal customer "there is nothing I can do for you." He kept mentioning security policy as a reason. I can understand concern over security today but this had devolved into the classic catch 22, the ultimate what came first chicken or egg debate. It was going nowhere fast with the only option of going further into the depths of despair and tail chasing.
I asked to speak to a supervisor and was put one hold to hear only a few minutes later that non were available. I requested again after asked why AOL didn't have any alternatives such as a security question. I even suggested the rep check "My Verizon" account and was shocked to hear there is no integration between the system that provides email services to Verizon customers into the Verizon system. Had such a link been available there were all sorts of ways I could verify myself. But without an AOL account, I had nothing but a broken email account. You HAVE to be kidding me!!!!! It actually got worse than I could ever imagine. The AOL system didn't know anything about me other than the fact I had four email accounts and the one with a locked password had an old phone number.
I was getting livid at this point and demanded to speak to a supervisor for the second time and was again rejected because none were available. Another request to just send the code to my new phone so i could reset the password myself was STERNLY REJECTED. "I have no way to verify you," the agent said.
THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO HELP BEING PROVIDED TO A CUSTOMER WHO HAD NO WAY TO GET INTO AN ACCOUNT TO CHANGE AN OLD PHONE NUMBER. AND THERE WAS NO OFFER OF HELP TO DO THAT FROM THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENT. JUST A "SORRY, THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO FOR YOU."
All I was offered was a promise of a supervisor to call me back, which i had NO ALTERNATIVE but to accept.
As i was waiting for the call back - which NEVER came - i kept trying to log on hoping that some sort of magic would happen and the password would somehow unlock itself.
Then an idea hit me. I have my old phone. Even though the number was supposed to have been put out of service when i got my new phone, i figured it wouldn't hurt to turn it on and see what happened.
Guess what? The old phone started up but keep hunting for service. It had wifi though.
With nothing to lose, I went back to the AOL logon screen and clicked the button to send a password reset code to my old phone number. I then sat back and kept waiting for the supervisor to call when all of a sudden, a text came to my old phone. I couldn't believe this stroke of good luck. I used that code to get into AOL mail, reset the password, update my old phone to my new phone, add additional ph

I have not been able to get emails since 10/16/18, and cannot login to my email. Every social media says the problems have been fixed, but numerous people and myself still have issues signing in. I cannot state that I have troubles logging in because it tells me I cannot fix this online. Then if I try to type in my password it says it’s wrong and will not allow me to change my password. Just tells me to try again later. I refuse to give a new password over the phone because I believe that is no way safe. You guys state every issue is fine but so many people are still having issues.

I cannot change very easily as the company email address is embedded in numerous Government , supplier, vendor and customer accounts. I would take a couple of weeks, especially with the Government. I have to have ever present access. I will pay more, just fix it.

I tried for one hour to find a way to change my AOL password. It shouldn’t be that hard to have a change password tab. Instead I had to change my EBay email to my ICloud email since I wasn’t able to secure my AOL email account. I will no longer use my aol email account as a contact for my other accounts due to this issue
