I am having the same exact problem and I have to delete the auto added contacts one at a time. I have tried different solutions but nothing works. Extremely annoying.

I cannot get my regular mail but I get 100’s of spam per day. Very frustrating

Yes, do not auto add contacts. The spammers have figured out how to add multiple contacts from one email. Please allow the global deletion of contacts - impossible to delete one by one.

Just discovered how polluted contact list is on the iPad app. It’s a really messed up process to try to remove all these junk contacts and would take me a very long time and a huge amount of frustration and aggravation to do this. There must be 100 or more of these entries in the contact list right now. Please please make it easier to delete this junk or have never appear in the first place. Thank you
