Bogus AOL alert?
Today I received a purported AOL notification that my account is being deactivated by AOL on 1/10. Please confirm that this is not true.
Thanks, TH

AOL needs to post a "WARNING" about scammers posing as AOL Techs. There may be others who made the mistake I made. Seeking to reload AOL Gold, I searched on AOL Gold and immediately had a chat screen which thought was AOL, but was actually a scammer. They took control of my machine without my consent and claimed to show I had a Trojan Virus (which was not true) and wanted to sell a removal service costing up to $ 600. I then finally recognized it as a scam and hung up. Took my machine to Best Buy where a Geek gave me a free 20 minute check of my computer, found the software which allowed them to control my machine, deleted it and searched for other mischief and found none. That's good service for an established customer, but I digress. My main message is that AOL should publish a warning that they are being impersonated which can do great harm to their customers. I hope this message will help others who, like myself, are not all that astute about computer matters.
