"Is it moral to begin the transition on a minor?"
That’s a legitimate question, Dan…
But first… you have to realize that “a child” does not receive any transition therapy simply because they want it, or ask for it!
That decision is made only after thorough consultation with family, physicians, and psychiatrists… and then… only age-appropriate treatments are performed as determined to be necessary.
As far as receiving “age-appropriate” treatment…
I’m sure you realize that as a child goes through puberty, their bodies experience hormonal and biological changes consistent with their birth sex.
Changes which don’t necessarily conform with their gender identity, such as; bigger or smaller bone structure and muscle mass, larger adam’s apples and a lower voice, breasts, body hair, or the lack thereof, etc, etc.
By not addressing those issues in a timely and efficient manner, the more there's a possibility they'll detract from a full and successful transition… and actually be the cause of any number of physical, psychological, and societal issues further on down the line!
So, in my mind…
I see fully vetted and age-appropriate transition therapy as not merely the moral thing to do…
I see it as the most loving, caring, and compassionate thing a parent can do for their child who is experiencing this kind of life event!
Which is an event that… unless we, or a loved one, have gone through it…
We have no real knowledge of…
Nor any right to judge or interfere with!
