Transparent PNG images with alpha channels show up black & are converted to JPG
I am a Graphic Designer and have to email my iOS programmer 2600+ transparent PNG images to program into our iOS application. They have to be in PNG format. AOL Desktop Gold has a few programming flaws that need to be fixed immediately. When I copy any PNG image into the write mail window, AOL incorrectly flattens the transparent PNG image making the transparent area BLACK in color and ALSO changes the file format from PNG to a flattened JPG image. We can NOT use JPG images at all as they lack an alpha channel.
This HAS to be fixed immediately!!! If my programmer emails me a transparent PNG image from Gmail, it comes through on my AOL account correctly as a PNG with a transparent alpha channel. However if I email him the same exact file from AOL the image is changed to a jpg and flattened/ made black where it is transparent!! What is going on?!
AOL remotely connected to my computer today 4/24/19 and I demonstrated this bug to 2 AOL workers including a manager. We were on the phone for 1 hour 27 minutes. I was told to instead attach the files through AOL Desktop Gold, however I need to write a detailed description to the right of every single image explaining its name, where it goes in our application, sound effects it plays when clicked etc. I can not do this if I were to simply attach them!
I tested this many ways. When I drag and drop or attach a transparent PNG image into AOL Desktop Gold, AOL flattens it and converts it to JPG. If I were to right click on it and select "Save Image As" you can clearly see that the file format is incorrectly changed to jpg. JPG images lack alpha channels! Not only do they lack alpha channels, but I noticed that the PNG images I attach get a little pixelated so they loose quality when they are converted to JPG and can not be used at all.
I can log into my FREE gmail account and drag/drop transparent PNG images into my write mail and they work correctly with alpha channels and without any pixelation! AOL's mail has to work correctly too as I am paying a monthly fee for your service.
If this is not fixed within the next 3 months, I will be making a video of this and posting it onto social media for all to see. I am SHOCKED that AOL does not seem to beta test its own software and I am the only person who has apparently pointed this glitch out to AOL.
I work at a design agency and we use AOL services for advertising. If this BUG is not fixed immediately, I will be recommending to my manager that we discontinue advertising on AOL as this BUG hampers our workflow.
I was told that I was the only person who has reported this problem, however I just searched on AOL's own Submit feedback page and found many others with the same exact problem. It seems that AOL does not read your own comments but reply to them with a blanket response as:
SUPPORT REQUEST · Product Support (Product Support, AOL) responded
I’d like to have one of our Technical Support agents investigate this. Please call our AOL Desktop Gold team at 1-888-265-3733. Our experts are available 24/7 by phone.
Thank you for your feedback, we will share it with the engineering team.
As a workaround, please attach the PNG files to the email, as opposed to embedding them into the email body. To attach the files, click on the ‘Attach File’ button at the bottom left corner of the Write mail window.

You are NOT the only person with this problem. I am having the same problem with the AOL browser. I am also a graphic designer and have to send the images out that I create. When I email my transparent images they go into the email with a black background. Also, when I email animations not only do they have a black background, but they are not animated. All works fine in other browsers. This needs to be fixed.
