my mail is not staying available for more than a day. I can't find emails that are over 24 hrs old

If I have mail that is over 24 hrs old, it just disappears in the new mail box and after 48 hrs is gone from my old mail box... this just started to happen in the last few days.

    please help keep my emails sent & received that are more than 1 week old. very important
