DO NOT KNOCK AOL DESKTOP GOLD FAVORITE PLACES, UNTIL TRYING THEM !!!!!
I WAS AGAINST THE IDEA OF AOL DESKTOP GOLD, BUT AFTER USING THE FAVORITE PLACES, I FIND IT IS A LOT EASIER THAN DRAGGING & ARRANGING NEW ADDITIONS TO THE LIST -OR- SCROLLING DOWN THE LIST OF MY 584 FAVORITES. SO, IF YOU ARE A DAILY USER OF THE FAVORITES, THEN YOU HAVE TRIED IT BY NOW -OR- YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE MISSING. I HAVE OVER 450 SONGS DOWNLOADED & IT IS SO EASY TO JUST START TYPING YOUR SEARCH ITEM & THEN YOU REALIZE THAT IT SURE BEATS DRAGGING NEW SONGS DOWN MY FAVORITE PLACES. JUST TRY IT & IF YOU ARE LIKE ME, YOU JUST NEED TO GIVE IT A CHANCE !!!!! REMEMBER, I WAS AGAINST THE ALPHABETICAL ORDER, BUT NOW I HOPE THEY LEAVE IT JUST THE WAY IT IS. WHOEVER THOUGHT OF THE NEW WAY TO USE THE FAVORITES PLACES LIST, IN MY OPINION, ARE EXPERTS. SO, NOW I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT I SURE HOPE THAT AOL FAVORITE PLACES STAYS JUST LIKE THEY ARE. I WILL TELL YOU THAT ONCE YOU ENTER A NEW SEARCH ITEM, YOU HAVE TO CLOSE THE AOL DESKTOP GOLD FAVORITES PLACES TO SEE IT ON YOUR FAVORITES LIST. TO AOL, I AM SORRY FOR AT FIRST BEING AGAINST SOMETHING I HAD NOT GIVEN A CHANCE. MANY THANKS TO YOU EXPERTS OF ENGINEERING / TECHNICAL SUPPORT THAT DID A GREAT DEED TO THOSE WHO USE FAVORITE PLACES !!!!! TO THAT I SAY MANY THANKS TO YOU FOR THE SUPERB CHANGE TO THE FAVORITES.
Thanks for the feedback! It’s so nice to get positive reinforcement from our users, as you are the audience we are working hard every day to serve. We really appreciate the time you took to send your note. Thanks again and have a fantastic day!

Maybe we could be given a choice as to whether we want our favorite places alphabetical? I may spend some time on google looking for sites on a particular subject, and adding them to my favorite places. Then, when I want to use them, they're scattered all through my list. Also, finding a site I've recently added to the list is extremely difficult because the site decides what to call itself, and so instead of just looking at the most recently added sites, I have to make guesses and do a search, or look through all of my favorites in the hopes of finding it. The required alphabetical system simply doesn't work as well as giving us a choice of doing it that way or determining the order ourselves. It should be too hard to give us that choice. The one reason I was staying with aol was that I liked the way the favorite places function worked. Now that's been taken away, and I'm considering quitting. I can't be the only one.

At first when you alphabetized Favorites I was upset. But after some creative maneuvering I now love it. It was never this good. I am posting this help for people to hate it:
.
You want sites that are often accessed near the top? (after your folders).
Put an asterisk in front of them and type the names in caps so they stand out (with no space after the asterisk):. Now your important sites will be near the top in alphabetical order like this:*LINK CHECKERS
*MY WEBSITE
*RECIPES
*SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION SITESYou can change the alphabetical order within these asterisked site by editing the names. For instance, if you want *MY WEBSITE listed last, edit the name to *WEBSITE and it will move to the bottom of the list.
One important point: When adding sites to favorites, FAVORITES at the top must first be highlighted. Otherwise your new site won't end up in the right place.
