Improvements needed for Desktop Gold !!
There are real problems with Desktop Gold – it should not have been released before they were fixed. Where is "Manage Favorites"? Can Favorites be stored on my PC?
Some Favorites folders are missing on *****. How to recover? Unable to manage preferences on Desktop 9.8
Security/Privacy Issue – If I log off with an e-mail and one or more web pages open, they are still visible if I do not exit Desktop Gold. If another user then logs on, they remain visible, so that the other user can read my e-mail and see the web pages I was on.
Now, AOL will not remember web pages from my last browsing session, even though I have it set to remember.
I could open AOL 9.8 and enter my password on the opening screen (the cursor even went there). Now it takes three screens to enter my password, and on the second screen only the mouse will do it. PLEASE make it more user-friendly.
Sometimes AOL Desktop Gold will not open, I have to reboot. Or it freezes up on the Print screen – will not cancel or close – I have to close AOL with Windows Task Manager.
Help on Desktop Gold is outdated – refers mostly to older versions
Where is the PFC stored – in the cloud? Can I save a copy on my computer?
Reply All – sends TO all. cc addressees on the incoming should be cc on reply. But then sometimes when I do Reply All, it replies only to the sender.
Is there still a Download Manager? It doesn't show on the Settings A-Z list. Can I set the default directory for downloads? Also, the "Download All" button at the bottom of the e-mail does not work.
How can I add items to the carousel – e.g., Address Book (the drop-down used to say "coming soon", but now even that is gone.)
How do I reach My Account – e.g., billing and screen names (it says to try later)
Draft e-mails – saved on-line? Possible to save on my computer? Can I write an e-mail when off-line? Can I read e-mails off-line?
Software does not always save my window size and position.
I get pop-ups from AOL (e.g., your AOL will be automatically updated), even though I have set my browser to block all pop-ups, and have turned off all AOL marketing options.
Download from an e-mail – how do I Download As – i.e., with a different filename?
How do I make AOL Desktop Gold NOT my default browser?
Is it possible to set DPI for smaller text and images?
Is a dial-up connection no longer available?
We will send this to our Product Engineers and they will look into this to see if they can have these features added and bugs fixed in a future update or release of the software. Regarding the other features and functions that you have mentioned we will explain them below.
The Manage Favorites feature is available, and you can use it by clicking on the manage button on the bottom of the Favorite Places window. The Manage feature provides an option to Save a copy of the favorite places in a file on your computer, to Replace your favorites with a back-up file, or to append a favorite file to your current list of favorites. Please note that the Save option will place a copy of the favorite places in a .fav file, which cannot be opened separately outside of the AOL Desktop Gold, and can be used only to Replace or Append to your Favorite Places within the software.
In case you are missing favorites or folders, please follow the steps from the help article below to import the personal data from the old AOL Desktop.

The personal filling cabinet is saved in a database folder in the root installation directory. The Engineering team is currently working on an option to back-up and restore the personal filing cabinet, which will be available in a future update.
Although the option to add the address book in the carousel will be available in a future update, you can add other favorite web-sites to the carousel. To do this, open the webpage and click on the Heart shaped button on the top right corner of the browser window, then select Add to Toolbar from the pop-up menu.
To access the MyAccount page, please type the following address into the address bar, then sign in: myaccount.aol.com .
Draft emails are saved on the server and can be accessed from other PC’s or devices. The option to compose and read saved emails when offline is not available.
To download a file attached to an email and change its name, click on the attachment file name above the Download button inside the email window, then type the name in the “File name” field and click Save.
To make another browser your default, you will need to make this change from the external browser’s settings. For setting-up Internet Explorer as your default browser you can follow the steps from this help article: https://help.aol.com/articles/choose-internet-explorer-as-a-default-browser
You can adjust the size of the text inside the browser and email window (not in the mailbox), by going to Edit on the top left, and then choose the desired text size from the Zoom option (you will need to have a browser or email window opened to do this).
The AOL Desktop Gold requires a broadband connection, but you can connect to dial-up through the AOL Dialer application, and navigate the internet with external browsers. If you have Dial-up access included in your membership, and want to set it up, please call us at 1-800-827-6364 and one of your technical support agents would be able to assist you.
Thank you.
