Filtering by words in the subject is still possible in the local Outlook mail that I have used since 2009. It should be possible in AOL. The current (as of 2026) filters that are supposed to stop unwanted emails from reaching the mailbox--including the spam folder--do not work.

"AOL Help" is not helpful becuase it cannot find answers based on specific word searches. For example, when I ask, "Why does my mailbox revert to 'AOL Today' when I close Send though I set aol to always open on Mailbox," Help displays general information on setting up Mailbox.

The 2026 version, "Stay verified," does not work either. My local Verizon/Outlook and other sites' persistent settings remain from session to session even if I signed out or shut down the computer in the interim. "Stay verified" should function in the same way.

AOL seems to have defaulted some users to two-factor authentication (as of 2026 and perhaps earlier than this year) even if it is not set up on the user's account page. (I checked mine.) If AOL is doing this for Outlook and/or other mailbox users, it should announce this as a policy change. It should also let users have a setting to REALLY opt out of two-factor authentication. Users should be able to set their security preferences. AOL should not presume to do it for them.

AOL in 2026 should be able to set effective blockers that enable users to do what has been possible with my local Verizon/Outlook mail since 2007: let the user set custom rules about how the junk/spam folder should handle unwanted emails, including permanently deleting them; and not limit blocked senders to one thousand.

Users should be able to create rules to completely block or permanently delete spam email messages that contain specific words in the subject or body. I can still do this in my Outlook Classic local mail. AOL should allow the same.
