Why can't I select the Option...Check for Updates
Fix these problems, or quit charging.
The “Check For Updates” option in the Help menu of the new AOL Desktop, will trigger the updates to download, but will not display a confirmation message when it is finished, as the updates are installed in the background, and take effect after closing and reopening the software.

What does the check for updates option in the help menu not work at all?

This post is being made on 2018-08-22; I am on version 11.0.1916.
I was prompted to provide this feedback because in the process of trying to find out if there was an update I was unable to determine whether "check for updates" on the HELP menu was working or not. At least for me, selecting that item produced no visible user feedback. "Check for updates" should indicate that either (a) the user is running the latest version, or (b) that an update / update(s) are available and what action the user needs to take, if any. I've been an AOL user since its inception, and involved in computing for ~50 years, so this is not my first rodeo and I have the chops to comment on interface design. -

Fix "check for updates" under the help menu. It does not do anything!
