I am going to miss chat rooms. I have made some of the best long lasting friends of my life in aol chat rooms. In these days of Covid chat rooms are especially needed. I hope you will change your mind and keep chat rooms. Thank you very much! Will Copa.

First the profile for Chat, then you stop IMs, If you close chatrooms, I'll have no reason to pay for Gold and will just use free AOL Mail for my account.

AOL Desktop Gold Chat Rooms to shut down on December 15, 2020
Learn more about AOL's decision to shutdown AOL Desktop Gold chat rooms on December 15, 2020 by reading this FAQ article.
AOL has made the decision to shut down AOL Chat Rooms, which are currently only available to AOL Desktop Gold subscribers. To help you through this transition, we've compiled some frequently asked questions.
Will I receive a discount or refund of my monthly AOL Desktop Gold subscription fee?
No, the only feature being decommissioned is AOL Chat Rooms. AOL Desktop Gold has many features that will continue to function normally and our development teams are constantly evaluating the software and feedback in order to add additional features.
Should get a discount because very little of AOL Gold works anyway. On my computer, when AOL is open, everything else works more slowly. In fact, AOL shouldn’t charge anything at all.
Will this impact my AOL Desktop Gold account?
No, the only thing being decommissioned is Chat Rooms. All other features of AOL Desktop Gold will continue to function normally.
I guess “normally” must mean poorly, like it has been since things were switched to AOL Gold.
Why was this decision made?
AOL has made the decision to shut down AOL Chat Rooms as of December 15. AOL Chat Rooms has seen a steady decline in usage over the last several years. Over that same period, we've witnessed unprecedented levels of engagement across our other properties as customers seek out premium, trustworthy content. While these decisions are never easy, we must sometimes make difficult decisions regarding products that no longer fit our long-term strategy as we hone our focus on other areas of the business.
You don’t say it here, but there are many other reasons there has been a steady decline in usage of the Chat Rooms…..
1. You did away with Instant Messages.
2. You did away with Profiles.
3. You did away with Buddy Lists.
4. When using a Chat Room, the following happens regularly:
A. The font changes almost all the time, most of the time to Arial.
B. When you try to use Bold font, it seldom stays that way.
C. When in a Chat Room, AOL boots people out on it’s own, but then returns the user back into the room. So it is in-and-out constantly, over-and-over.
D. Many times a user can type something in the line at the bottom of the room page but AOL will not enter it into the Chat Room. Sometimes it does but the person that wrote it cannot see it.
E. At times, AOL will not let you into any Chat Rooms.
F. Many time, when trying to enter a .com, .net, .edu, .info, etc. many times what you get is the Opps page.
G. In email, some of the time email from an AOL user goes to my Spam Folder.
H. There are probably other things that go wrong, and maybe other services do some of the same things, but not regularly like AOL Gold does on a regular basis.
What is the timeline for this process?December 15 - You'll no longer be able to access AOL Desktop Gold Chat Rooms.
The way AOL Gold works now and how you have responded to “fixing” any of these problem, It cannot happen soon enough.
How can I continue to connect with my Chat Room friends?
Although we do not have any official partnerships with any of the following groups' sites, we feel that the least we can do for our loyal customers is to recommend some reliable sites for our users to continue having group communications. These sites are simple and easy to use.
Neither of these below have a way to chat with anyone.
• Reddit - Requires a reddit account
• Facebook Groups - Requires a Facebook accountI am posting this in the Help section of AOL called Submit Feedback, but I don’t expect an answer since I have posted in this section and have never received any answer of any kind.
Also, I have read, from time-to-time, other members comments but have never seen any changes in AOL Gold since you, Verizon, have never changed anything since you have changed to AOL Gold.Roger **

I've been in timeout for about a month now. Nobody will tell me what I said or for how long I will be in timeout. After 30 years I think it is time to move to another ISP.

After 30 years of being a "valued member", the last 6 months with a myriad of mail problems and now the announcement of chat room discontinuation is causing me to seriously wonder why I am paying a Golden price for constantly diminishing service. Mail service @ gmail is far more reliable and free. I'm working toward discontinuing AOL completely and starting my new year with a new ISP.

One of the reasons many of us have stayed with AOL is for chat rooms. Now you're threatening again to eliminate them. Many of us will quit AOL then.

Chat rooms are not declining. Your ability to interest people in chatting about things is. You really need to get a grip on this weakness..
