Back up and restore the Personal Filing Cabinet so that it can be transferred to a new computer!!!!!!!!!
Now you can only access the PFC on the original computer. What happens if your hard drive crashes or you get a new computer? You lose all your saved emails. You used to be able to save the Organize folder and transfer it. Bring that option back!!! Also, let users know when you add things like this through an update rather than discovering on our own.
The option to Import and export your personal data to a file that can be copied to another computer is now available.
To export your personal data file, go to Edit – General Settings – My Data (tab) – click on the “Export” button, select a location where you want to save the PFC file, then click “Save”. After this you will be given the option to create a password for the personal data file.
The .export file can be moved to another computer, using an external storage device or online file storage service, and can be imported in AOL Desktop Gold, by going to Edit – General Settings – My Data (tab) – and clicking on the “Import” button (the previously created password is required).
Please note that the .export PFC file cannot be opened, and in order to access its content, you will have to use the “Import” feature.

To anonymous at 11/1/18. There is no way to save email for a backup or to transfer to a new computer. Many of us have been sending comments to AOL for a year. No updates when programmers will implement this necessary feature.
There are many who need access to read our old emails in the PFC organize folders via v9.8.2 that are stored on flashdrives. We have been told they can't send us a CD to install the old v9.8.2. Why can't AOL send a program on a CD to bypass AOL Gold to read emails using v9.8.2. We don't need to send email using v9.8.2, we just want access to read old emails. -

I didn't know this when I migrated to Gold! If this in fact the case, AOL has found a way to turn GOLD into toxic LEAD! If in fact this is an issue, is AOL ever going to address it?

If you haven't figured out yet, the "upgrade" to GOLD provided ONE TIME move of PFC to GOLD ON THE SAME COMPUTER. The ability to move the PFC to a new computer, or even migrate it to a "seasonal" computer is NO LONGER AVAILABLE. When, after "upgrading" to GOLD, I continued to use my LARGE PFC, it was find. When I then tried to move it to another computer, it was said to be impossible by AOL Tech Support. In fact, one agent told me it was "no problem? and he again migraded my PFC - only to find out it was the AOL9.8 PFC that was 4 months old. THREE MONTHS OF BUSINESS AND PERSONAL EMAIL LOST FOREVER. GOLD has been a terrible upgrade. AOL seems clearly focused only on users who do NOT USE DESKTOP - of course Desktop users are their most loyal long-time users. Just more Corporate insensitivity to the customer who got them to where they are and focus on data gathering and ad revenue. So sad after so many years.

My old computer crashed. I have appx 50 old PFC organize files that are saved on a flash drive. AOL needs to develop a method to be able to read these very old PFC organize files in the new AOL gold platform. Here is another thread with several additional comments that there is a HUGE need for people to be able to read very old emails.

I'm living this nightmare now. I lived through the shift to AOL Gold and the hours of waiting as the update wizard transferred my emails/favorites. Now I lost my computer to a house fire and had to replace it. I managed to save the HHD, checked it in a docking station (amazing it still works), but I can't move my emails favorites from one copy of Gold to the other.
I've stuck by AOL for over two decades, but losing over two decades of stored data could be a deal breaker.
