Thank's for taking those annoying ads of the write page but please bring back 9.8 so I can pick the sounds I want for my AOL greetings etc.
Combine the best of both 9.8 and Gold and stop trying to make changes we don't want. I DO PAY for my AOL every month and will not continue to if you keep *****with it.

The custom greeting sounds are now available with the latest update for the AOL Desktop Gold. To customize your greeting sounds, follow these steps:
1. Open the AOL Desktop Gold and sign on.
2. Click on the ‘Edit’ menu on the top left.
3. Select ‘General Settings’ from the drop-down menu.
4. Go to the ‘Personalization’ category on the left.
5. Select the ‘Sounds’ tab.
As an alternative you can go to the Keyword(CTRL+K): sounds.
To choose the sound categories, click on the ‘Options’ button, and after selecting your preferred greetings click on ‘Apply’. You can also preview the sounds before and after applying them, by clicking on the Play button next to the sound name.
If you do not have the custom greeting sounds, it means that you will have to upgrade your AOL Desktop Gold software to the latest revision. To do that, click on the ‘Help’ menu on the top right, and select ‘Check for Updates’ from the drop-down menu. After this leave the software opened for 10-15 minutes, in order for the update to download in the background, then close and re-open the AOL Desktop Gold for the update to be applied.

Why am I going from Free AOL 9.8.2, to AOL Gold for which I have to pay $4.99/month which is more cumbersome and user un-friendly? Is AOL trying to make everyone quit so that they can close their doors?

unable to get my sounds back and theres no place to get picture on the screen welcome /you got mail/goodbye i always had my name put in the there goin to take a lot to get used to

In order to update to Gold, you will need to update your Windows software to the latest Windows Operating System. The minimum system requirements for the latest version of the AOL Desktop software are Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Internet Explorer 7+
The emails you have stored locally in your AOL Desktop will remain accessible in a read-only format. You will be able to see your emails using the old version of the AOL Desktop software but you will not be able to send and receive new emails. PLEASE make AOL so it can be as it was when it was 9.8 so those of us with Win XP can still use it as we did with 9.8 not that awful AOL shield it is so hard to navigate!
Verizon stop trying to fix something that's not broke.
A retiree
