  1. AOL Gold -- the worst ever?????

    I don't know whose idea it was to make Gold, but it is sure worse than the earlier versions. Just try scrolling through the opening pages and see how long it takes. FOREVER! ! ! Then there are a lot more advertisements. Everything has ads and they take forever to load and move on to the next screen. I continually try to use the "Quick Find" in the e-mail address section but it does not find many of my addresses. I need to arrange them in a certain way to see if that address exists, rather than trust Quick Find…

    I appreciate your feedback. I’m sorry to hear the Gold experience wasn’t pleasant for you so far. We are updating the software every two weeks.

    In case the Quick Find is not finding your contacts when searching by their first or last name, it is possible that the contact does not have their name added to your address book. In this case, it is easier to search by the email address rather than the first or last name, or edit a contact and add their name to your address book.

    As you might have noticed we changed the login process in AOL Mail, to a more secure 2 step login, which helps prevent your AOL account from being compromised or hacked.

    If your username or email is missing from the login screen, simply double-click inside the “Username or Email” box and select it from the drop-down menu, then click Continue.

    In case you are using a password manager, like LastPass or Roboform, the saved login might stop working because the Password field is moved to separate page. In this case, manually type the password on the second login screen and save it when your password manager asks you to do this.

  3. Uninstall older versions ?

    Since I have AOL Desktop Gold I want to uninstall my older versions of AOL. I had to call support for problems downloading AOL Desktop Gold and after it was done, they said we aren't suppossed to remove the older versions. Is this true? I don't want excess versions on my computer. Is it OK then to remove them ?

    In order to disable the delete mail confirmation prompt, please follow these steps:
    1. Open the AOL Desktop Gold and sign in.
    2. Click on the ‘Mail’ menu on the top left.
    3. Select ‘Mail Settings’ from the drop-down menu.
    4. Uncheck ‘Confirm before deleting items’, and close the window (changes are saved automatically).

    I believe it's critical for AOL as a company--and for technicians--to work out all the kinks in any changes made to the system or to upgrades to the system. The customer should come before the technical aspects.

    As a customer, I have been challenged with many issues since AOL Gold first started. For example, AOL Gold would shut down every time I tried to send an email. Spam mail went into my inbox instead of the spam folder. After sending emails, I would get another "COMPOSE" page as if I'm sending another email even though I did not initiate another…

    Due to recent adjustments to the AOL Mail platform, this feature (“Receive emails only from people I know”) is no longer available. In order to block a specific sender, go to the Mail menu and select “Block Unwanted Mail” and add the email addresses in the box below “Block Mail from Addresses I Specify”, then click Save Settings at the bottom, or mark the emails in the inbox as Spam.

    Please send us a crash report in order for our engineers to look into the issue you are experiencing with the software closing unexpectedly. To do that, please follow these steps:

    1. Open AOL Desktop Gold.
    2. Click on Help on the top right, and select Report a Bug from the drop-down menu.
    3. Type a short description of the problem, and click Send.

  7. We have been members of the AOL family for over 23 years. We called yesterday and was placed on hold for nearly 2 hours. We needed help.

    Service like this (or lack thereof) does not speak to well to management's comitment to customer serve.

  8. Before the insidious AOL Gold, I could send a photo one of two ways, fast or photo quality. What happened to that?

    When choosing the option to send a photo fast, it took far fewer bits, so the captions and text could be much longer. Bring that back.

    Click on Mail > Mail Settings > General tab> under the setting “When adding an image to mail:” select one of the three options available. Changes are saved automatically.

    Please exit AOL Gold and open it again. After that refresh the mailbox.

    Here’s how: Click on the Mail option on the top of the desktop screen and select Refresh Mailbox from the drop-down menu.

  11. Email With Attachments

    Can you please review this comment from one of my customers. Their system keeps flagging my emails as spam. I only know of one way to attach documents. Is there another method as they suggest?

    If a 3rd party email service is flagging emails sent by you, as Spam, their email administrator will need to white-list your email address. Please contact Mimecast in order to resolve this.

    The AOL Desktop Gold recently received a new update to address several performance issues. To make sure that you have this new update installed, click on the Help button on the top right, and select “About AOL” from the drop-down menu. In case your revision number is lower than 11.0.2007, click on the Help button again and select “Check for updates”, and leave the software open for 10-15 minutes then close and re-open it (in order for the update to be installed in the background).

    If you already have the latest revision and are still experiencing performance issues, please send us a crash report in order for our engineers to further investigate the issue. To do that, follow these steps:

    1. Open AOL Desktop Gold.
    2. Click on Help on the top right, and select Report a Bug from the drop-down menu.

    Click on Mail > Mail Settings > General tab > next to display name type the name you wish to have when sending email, then click Save.

  15. Your comment section is broken and has been for a while.

    The comment section is still broken. Half the time my nickname shows up and the other half I have to post as a guest. The comments many times are out of order,, then the conversations don't make sense. Please get this fixed, or can't you? I was told by AOL that Spot IM manages the comments section. I've complained about this several times now.

    Try to clear the Footprints and try again.

    To clear your browser footprints in AOL Desktop Gold, click on Edit on the top left, go to “Select footprints to clear”, and after checking the three option available click on the Clear Footprints button.

  16. When will things work as they used to

    I just wasted over an hour trying to sign into Gold. After the little white box appeared two blue circles would freeze and got message "not responding", yet every other website I tried was no issue.
    I finally wasted more time calling Tech Support and reporting the issue. Other than trying to sell me some check up program I do not need, wanting to reinstall which I had done a short time ago making no difference in all the problems and filing a case number, that was it.
    I again reported my seven carousel icons which are moved every time…

  18. why doesnt the IVR recognize my phone # -, Please rectify this for me so it recognizes my account

    in the past before AOL was bought by Verizon when i called for help it would ask for my screen name to verify me, now it asks for the phone # i used to set up the account, I have no idea how original account over a decade ago was set up, but i haven't changed my phone # and the IVR refuses to recognize my account- please correct this so i can be sent to correct department and it recognizes me- please set up to recognize daytime phone #

    Have been getting this error message for 1 week now. The error messages come up repeatedly after about an hour and then stop.The connection is fine. Please advise how I can resolve this ASAP.

    Please power cycle (reboot) your modem/router, by following these steps:
    Switch off and unplug the power from your modem/router.
    Leave both unplugged for 30 seconds.
    Plug the power back into the modem/router and verify that you are again connected to the Internet.

    If you still encounter issues call us at 1-800-827-6364.

    If the recipient’s email address has the correct format (username and a domain name), you will not receive an error message when sending the email. In case the address contains characters that are not allowed, or the email address is incomplete you will be prompted by an error message when attempting to send the email.

    When sending the email to an email address that is misspelled, you will not receive a pop-up error message, instead AOL will attempt to deliver the email. When we are unable to deliver the email to the recipient, you will receive a bounce-back error message containing the reason for the delivery failure.

    In order to remove an email address from the To, Cc or Bcc fields, right-click on it, and select ‘Remove’ from the pop-up menu.
