Your new icon bar that highlights new mail before you click on that email should be scrapped immediately. It is NOT helpful in the least!!

It would be wonderful if we could make our own little icons for pages we have on the toolbar!

Can you please allow me to use my own icons on the favorites(shortcut toolbar) located at the top of the browser screen.

I agree with the Toolbar icons. That's the second thing I miss. I made Google the pair of glasses, Allrecipes was the hamburger, the desert newspaper had the thermometer, etc. Can I just go back to an older version (like 9.2), so I can get these things back? You forced me to switch to Gold, and thereby lose everything I liked about AOL.

Those ICONS were a big draw for me, and so many people asked me where I got my cool icons. I was able to tell them, "They're free on AOL!". But now they're gone! I was able to get many people to download AOL Desktop in the older versions, because they wanted the ICONS! I got compliments every week on my e-mails, because they had personality. My favorite was the "Spinning Head" dude. You've missed the boat by not taking advantage of that feature, and making people aware of how they worked. It was so easy to put "Runner with Hair on Fire" (or numerous others), that used to be available, but now they're gone. You could have AOL start ADDING customers, instead of falling off, if only somebody would take this seriously . 1) Put the icons back, then 2) educate AOL users by showing them a few of the icons in the body of the e-mail (like I did), then show them how easily they could add ones to their "favorites" in the drop-down list. It took no time at all, and made the e-mails WAY more interesting to read. Because my e-mails were so fun, the compliments kept coming, and I was able to add many new AOL users to download the Desktop version. Sadly, the last version that had the icons was AOL 9.2. Now, all I can do is to send boring text e-mails, like everyone else on the planet.
BTW, in the "old days", I would download each version, and excitedly look to see if there were any new fun icons. There never were; I think they did them the first time, nobody caught on, so they never updated them.
What's sad is that it would have helped to RETAIN paying customers like me. It was the only reason I stayed.
When people would joke, "Oh wow- I didn't know anyone even used AOL anymore!", I would tell them: it's the ICONS.
I'd send them an e-mail, peppered with various icons throughout, and they'd say , "Oh, NOW I see why you're on AOL! These are pretty cool!" Someone in marketing needs to pay attention, and revive those: it would increase user loyalty. Thanks for reading this long feedback! Susan Spurr

How can I simply delete a toolbar icon that I no longer use? This shouldn't require a PHD in computer science!?

Adding an icon to the AOL carousal was in the version prior to AOL Gold.
Now my carousal does not even have a check mark in the lower right corner to edit the carousal.
This is all very upsetting and I am stumped after being an AOL user since the early 1990's

I have been using AOL since the 90's (im 68yr) and it has gotten better over time. But now AOL Gold is a ongoing disaster and getting worse. We now cant change any favorite icons anymore . They are all red hearts which is hard to find your favorite site to go to. Also hard to switch user names they are to grayed out. And the dam stories they keep you reading page after page after page which it would only take half a page to read. Then when you read the whole thing it had nothing to do with the first picture of what they where telling you about. I keep seriously thinking about dumping this monthly pay service and try to learn how to do things another way

Recent updates have changed a new Favorites Icon to a heart from a gear. When will we get to select a personal icon for each favorite like we had in AOL 9.8 and previous versions?

I cannot choose my own icon instead it just puts up another heart icon

Unbelievable that AOL would take away a function that virtually ever user wants. Please give us the ability to change our Toolbar Icons.

I've been with aol for almost 2 decades. I have a gmail account i can use but it's hard to change my main account after so many years. I don't mind paying a little bit for the convenience of being able to contact customer service by phone but otherwise AOL is a mess. Especially the articles that you click through forever to finally learn the article isn't even about the tease line. So, I no longer read any aol article.
I also miss the ability to choose different icons for my favorites on the tool bar.. Please bring them back

Thought AOL was supposed to be so great when they switched over to AOL Gold. What happened? AOL charges a fee every month while other carriers don't charge. Everything is almost the same with the exception that there are no icons for favorites anymore and a few other things. Why didn't they just keep things the way they were? AOL should stop charging a fee for this awful AOL Gold. What's up AOL? I have so many favorable hearts that I’m willing to give one up just to go back to the way things were prior to you becoming AOL Gold.

Yes we need the function to change icons and the number of characters allowed are less now also. Another thing is we need a choice to have favorites in line by date added rather than alphabetically, that we are forced into now.

I'm with the others on this one. How about the icon options back.

THE OTHER COMMENTS ARE TOTALLY ON POINT re: the customization of the toolbar.! I have been a lifelong client, but honestly...YOU ARE GOING BACKWARDS. Each change has diminished the AOL BRAND. How unfortunate

I would like to use a different icon for my toolbar instead of a heart. The old version allowed like facebook to use their own icon and now it is just a heart like all the others.
